Coach Profiles

Jake Boer Jake is the Director of SA Sports Coaching, with vast experience at top level rugby. He spent 10 years in the UK , during which time he played over 230 top first class games in the English Premiership & European Cup. Jake has played for Leicester Tigers, London Irish & Gloucester, and captained Gloucester between 2002 & 2004. He won the prestigious Guinness Premiership Player of the Year award in 2002/2003 as well as the Overseas Player of the Year award. On his return to SA In 2007 Jake was finally capped for Western Province. Jake holds a UKCC ( UK coaching Certificate) gained with first4sport coaching in the UK, the awarding body for coaching rugby union. Jakes rugby coaching history includes involvement with schools and clubs in the UK as well as for Gloucester Rugby Club’s summer camps.

Steve McIntyre Steve has a history of top level involvement as a player and skills, strength & conditioning trainer. Steve played for Stellenbosch university where he completed his honours degree in sports science. He has represented Western Province at Junior level as a scrum half as well as playing premier division club rugby for 10 years for Stellenbosch and Villagers. He has been involved with Bishops rugby for over 10 years, doing skills & conditioning and worked for Western Province Rugby. Steve was the Springbok Strength Coach for 2006 & 2007, being a member of the victorious Springbok squad to the rugby world cup in France.

Greg Commins Greg has a history of top level involvement in rugby as player & coach. Greg has represented Western Province under 21’s, Vodacom Cup, President XV and Currie Cup teams as well as the Border Bull Dogs as a scrum half. He also played for and captained Village RFC, a premier division club in the Western Province League. Greg’s coaching history includes involvement with top level club and school sides University of Cape Town RFC – Skills & Conditioning Coach Villager RFC – Skills & Conditioning Coach Villager RFC – Backline & Assistant Coach Bishops ( Diocesan College) – Skills & Conditioning Coach Greg holds a diploma in Sports performance training, and an advanced diploma in SAQ ( speed, agility & quickness) training.

SA Rugby Coaching Day clinics and residential rugby camps are run by former professional players & coaches delivering their combined expertise to provide you with first class all round rugby training. Available for all levels and abilities, for both local schools, colleges and clubs, as well as international touring teams.

Rugby has been at the forefront of South African sport for many years, with the growth in the professionalism of the game worldwide there is a definite demand for quality rugby education.

At SA Rugby Coaching we aim to deliver quality expertise in rugby skills, physical strength & conditioning and mental strength. Besides working on developing your all round game we also focus on the all important ìteam buildingî side of the game.

We offer 1/2 and full day clinics run from our base in Cape Town suited to local schools, colleges or clubs as well as international touring teams looking for excellence in training amidst their game schedule.

Our Residential Camps, based at our academy on the West Coast, range from 2 Days to 7 Days, ideal for a pre season training & team building trips or a great opportunity to regroup during the season.

The Academy Advanced Course offers a 3 week intensive programme for players aged 16 and over. Designed for aspiring professional players.
